Your New Role

The Senior Scientist, Organic Synthesis will be responsible for developing and identifying new and unique raw materials for the personal care industry.  It is a key role in expanding the current portfolio under the guidance of the Personal Care Innovation Manager in line with the business strategy.  The position will primarily involve lab work, testing and developing new ingredients in order to optimize cost, improve performance and deliver new solutions to meet market needs.  


As a Senior Scientist, Organic Synthesis you will be responsible for:  

  • Work within a team to provide guidance within the set strategy to generate new products that meet both customer and industry demands;
  • Provide direction to process engineers in developing and implementing processes for the manufacture of new products developed in the laboratory;
  • Conduct bench scale experiments, 500g scale, necessary to develop new materials following good laboratory practices, and adhering to proper safety procederes;
  • Identify and characterize inorganic and organic compounds to determine composition, physical and chemical properties and structure/performance relationships utilizing spectroscopic, chromatographic, thermal, microscopic and other analytical techniques;
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously within specified timelines and budgets to deliver successful outcomes;
  • Perform an active role in new product brainstorming sessions with Marketing and R&D;
  • Provide project updates and input on direction and interact with senior management and broad personal care team.


What you will need to be succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field;
  • +7 years’ experience of hands-on experience in product development;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, with a strong capability for presentation creation, Project management software;
  • Excellent communication skills, communicating clearly and effectively both written and oral across internal teams and other partners;
  • Fluency in English - verbal and written.


What the Company can Offer you

Whilst this role will be based at the Porto Hub, there will be occasions where you may be required to travel to other Elementis sites.
